Homer's bust

Videos around Cephalonia

I made a number of videos as I walked around the area. They show simply what I saw, without commentary or music, but with the occasional sub-title to identify features or directions. They are on YouTube, and are best watched in HD.

A walk up Mt Lachties (5:01)

Vistas, and views of bushes, rocks, flowers, and goats, from the slopes of Mt Lachties, east of Atheras, including a panorama from the summit. The mountain is the Homeric Mt Neriton according to Odysseus Unbound. The audio is muted because the wind was blowing hard.

A walk up Kasteli (5:01)

Kasteli is in the Oros Kasteli-Blosti (Thinaias-Zolon-Livadiou) Wildlife Refuge. The video includes a 360 degree panorama from the top of Kasteli, the site of Odysseus's palace according to Odysseus Unbound.

Around Kasteli (5:01)

Scenes around Kasteli in the Oros Kasteli-Blosti (Thinaias-Zolon-Livadiou) Wildlife Refuge.

A walk to Palasti (5:00)

A walk to Palasti in the Oros Kasteli-Blosti (Thinaias-Zolon-Livadiou) Wildlife Refuge. Views of landscape, wildflowers, rocks, ruins, goats, spent cartridges, and dead wildlife. The audio is muted because the wind was blowing hard.

Around Atheras (4:22)

Scenes of fertile fields, wells, ancient stone walls, flora and fauna south of Atheras, where the Homeric Arethousa Spring and Eumaios' pigfarm were located, according to Odysseus Unbound.

Atheras Bay (1:38)

Views of the beach once known as Phorcys Bay where Odysseus made his homecoming to Ithaca, according to Odysseus Unbound.

Agia Kiriaki Bay (1:31)

Views on a windy day. Rough seas have caused erosion to the foreshore. The area was once the northern entry of "Strabo's channel" which divided mainland Cephalonia from the Paliki peninsula (ancient Ithaca), according to Odysseus Unbound.

Livadi Marsh (5:01)

Scenes around "Leivadi Lixouriou," a wildlife refuge since 1976. Also the harbour of Homeric Ithaca, according to Odysseus Unbound. Beach, flowers, bees, cows, and views and sounds of birds.
